How is the print produced?
How is the print produced? A giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a French word meaning, "fine spray". It is a computer generated print that is produced by the spraying of an image onto canvas and is virtually indistinguishable to that of the original.

Many reproductions are produced by firstly scanning the original artwork. However, dependent on the type of scanner used, it is often the case that the scanned image can be distorted resulting in an untrue reproduction. We have, therefore, taken a further step to avoid any discrepancies by ensuring that the original artwork is initially professionally photographed and the transparency produced is then specially scanned using a high quality scanner ensuring that no light enters the scanner during this process. The digital file is then transferred to a high quality Epson printer, which sprays tiny pixel-size droplets of different colours at a resolution of 1440 dpi.

Early inkjet prints in the mid 1990's were disappointingly fugitive with noticeable fading occurring quite quickly. Dramatic improvements have been made in the inks, paper and canvas used. It was found that it is crucial that the combination of machine, ink-set and substrate are compatible and tested as a whole. Recent tests show that it is estimated that your images will last a lifetime using Epson UltraChrome inks with lightfastness for up to 75 years (indoor).

Each finished print is inspected, approved and signed by Sunita Sur.

Finally, each canvas print is sprayed using three coats of gloss varnish to seal and protect the print.

Medium: Each print is printed onto the highest quality canvas or paper.

Canvas weight: 350gsm

How should I care for my print?
Giclées are relatively durable and require little care. If dust accumulates, they can be wiped lightly with a damp cloth. They should not be revarnished. Although the inks on giclées are very stable it is still best to keep your giclée out of direct sunlight.

What is a limited edition print?
Giclées are printed in limited editions. Edition sizes can range anywhere from 20 giclées to 500 giclées. Once all of the giclées in the edition are sold, no additional giclées are made and the original file is destroyed. To ensure that the edition consists of the correct amount, each giclée in the general edition and each proof is signed and numbered consecutively.

Each piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity
