Tower Bridge has stood over the River Thames in London since 1894 and is one of the most recognisable bridges in the world.

I have always wanted to paint the Tower Bridge but was nervous about the final results. This painting was based on a night scene and to add atmosphere I created a scene at sunset. It was difficult to ensure that the bridge was not overpowered by its surroundings. After having painted the water in light colours I felt this did not give the bridge the justice it deserved. By changing the colours in the water the bridge came alive.
